Sydney Water - Water Ways Article
A few years ago, the Program Delivery team were delivering around $750 million in
infrastructure projects per annum. Looking forward, we could see our project
pipeline was overflowing and we’d need to triple our delivery capacity. Today,
we’re executing around $2 billion per annum. How have we managed this growth?
In part, it’s because we focused on upskilling our team. We partnered with Elemental Projects who created a customised training program for new and existing employees. It aligns with industry standards, is externally accredited yet totally tailored to our business processes. Delivered over 12 months, it covered:
The Science of Project Management
The first stage focused on key technical project management skills like scoping,
scheduling, managing risk and budgeting. Award-winning gamified simulation
cemented the learning. Participants achieved a nationally recognised diploma
qualification and automatic certification with the AIPM as a Certified Practicing
Project Professional (CPPP).
The Art of Project Leadership
This stage focused on developing the critical interpersonal skills essential for success
in today's complex delivery environments. Using personal leadership coaching, the
team identified gaps in key skill areas and developed individual action plans.
Progress was reviewed through peer coaching, which established a collaborative
culture and networks that are providing ongoing support long after the course is
complete.
What people are saying
We have a changed cohort. They loved the training style. Amazing delivery, facilitation and support. And projects are getting delivered faster. Not only do the team understand the practicalities of delivering a project, they better understand the commercial implications of their work and they care about business deliverability. - Mark Simister, Head of Program Delivery
Such a unique and unforgettable opportunity. I especially appreciated how specific it was to my situation and position. The knowledge shared will no doubt help me in the future, both personally and professionally. - Sana Lodhi, Project Manager
It was very valuable, especially the emotional intelligence aspects. I enjoyed the balance of classroom teaching, challenges and assessments. It was a very good learning experience for me and I'll recommend it to my colleagues. - Peter Murugathasan, Project Manager
